1. Liar Liar (1997)
Lawyer Fletcher (Jim Carrey) earns his daily bread with lies. Unfortunately, his five-year-old son Max suffers from it as well. Too many false promises. Too often, Fletcher just doesn’t show up. When he also misses his son’s birthday, Max makes an extraordinary wish: his father should not be able to lie for one day. A miracle happens, and it is now impossible for Fletcher to lie. The truth always comes out of his mouth, no matter how he acts. Whether he finally realizes how important it is to be there for his family?
Jim Carrey has always been best at making faces and gibberish. That’s exactly why “The Dumbass” is the parade role for the comedian. This comedy is definitely one of the actor’s best films.
2. Beverly Hills Cop (1987)
Detroit. Shortly after his best friend from Beverly Hills comes to visit, he is murdered. Cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) wants to find out who’s responsible for his buddy’s death and investigates on his own. He mixes up Beverley Hills quite a bit with his loose mouth and his own methods. Soon he has the local cops on his back, who he tries to convince to work with him.
An unfinished script was intended for Sylvester Stallone, and a shaky production didn’t necessarily bode well for success. But single-handedly, Eddie Murphy saved the film and made it one of the most beloved action comedies of all time through a lot of improvisation. Both sequels are also available on Amazon Prime.
3. Tropic Thunder (2008)
It is to be the most expensive war drama of all time. The greatest action movie the world has ever seen. The Vietnam War in all its dimensions. It takes the best and most famous actors Hollywood has to offer: Action-Star Speedman (Ben Stiller), Comedian Portnoy (Jack Black), and Method Actor Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr.), who even has his skin color changed in operation for his role. Unfortunately, the shoot gets a little out of hand, and rebels take the crew hostage.
Ben Stiller, who also directed this one, directed a madcap parody where Hollywood doesn’t get off easy. Completely overdone, the film does not mince words. Add to that an abstruse guest appearance by Tom Cruise as a choleric film producer.
4. Last Vegas (2013)
Four retirees, played by Robert DeNiro, Morgan, Freeman, Michael Douglas, and Kevin Kline, have been friends since childhood. After Billy proposes to his girlfriend 30 years his junior, the four friends head to Las Vegas to hit it off one more time. Of course, Billy’s (Michael Douglas) party goes quite differently than expected. In addition, various problems and quarrels arise in the senior gang.
A hearty comedy with great film icons. This is a film about love and friendship worth watching. Check it out! Because it’s worth it.
Los Angeles in the 70s. A porn star dies under mysterious circumstances. At the same time, Amelia, the daughter of the district judge, disappears. Detective Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and bone crusher Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) investigate. The unequal duo gets on the track of a gigantic conspiracy. But along the way, the two have to deal with some harassment and bad guys.
Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) creates the perfect detective comedy with a terrific cast here. The Nice Guys reflects the 70s wonderfully and leaves no eye dry.
6. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) has a dream: success on Wall Street. In a garage with a handful of employees begins a steep career. The success story takes off. But greed triumphs in the end. Tax evasion and money laundering are fast becoming the norm. Boundless partying and drugs usher in the slow descent, and Jordan Belfort soon faces the law.
Based on true events, the film is a masterpiece by director Martin Scorsese. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers a strong performance as usual and is supported by Margot Robbie and Jonah Hill.
7. The Big Lebowski (1997)
Hippie and bowling fan Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), who is just called “Dude,” gets into one precarious situation after another. And all because a billionaire is also called Lebowski, leading to a mix-up. The young wife of the billionaire was kidnapped. The blackmailers want a ransom and not too little of it. Now the Dude is supposed to hand over the suitcase with the money. But this also goes wrong, and a spiral of chaos begins.
The cult film of the Coen brothers (No Country for Old Men) has endless fans around the globe. And rightly so! Unique is a term that is used too often. But it is true of this film. “The Big Lebowski” will certainly not be mistaken for any other movie.
8. Manitou’s Shoe (2002)
Abahachi, the chief of the Apaches, wants to buy a tribal pub for his tribe. For this, he has taken out a loan with the Shoshone. When the purchase of a saloon turns out to be a fraud and the bandit Santa Maria kills the son of the Shoshone chief, boundless chaos ensues. The murder is blamed on Abahachi and his white blood brother Ranger. To prove their innocence and repay the debt, the two set out to find a treasure that is said to be hidden in Manitou’s shoe.
Hardly any other film attracted Germans to the cinema in such large numbers as Michael Bully Herbig’s cult comedy. A funny Winnetou persiflage that you can watch over and over again.
9. Bean (1997)
The popular character of Mr. Bean gets her big-screen debut with this comedy. Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) is a museum guard in London and makes himself extremely unpopular due to his talent for stumbling from one clumsy situation to the next. The museum’s board members want Mr. Bean, which is more than convenient for them when a curator is sought in America. Mr. So Bean is transported to the land of opportunity and gets just as many chances to put her foot in her mouth.
The comedy shows that the TV character from England also has the potential to inspire moviegoers and make them laugh. If you haven’t had enough after this film, you should definitely watch “Mr. Bean takes a vacation.
10. Hot Pursuit (2015)
The vain and fastidious policewoman Rose Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) has to protect Danielle Riva, a drug lord’s widow (Sofia Vergara). Danielle Riva wants to testify in court against a cartel boss and must therefore be safely transferred.
But Rose did not expect the widow’s diva-like behavior, so the two women get into one or the other difficult situation.
Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon are in top form here. The chemistry between the two powerful women is clearly noticeable, making this flashy and fast-paced comedy worthwhile.
11. Forrest Gump (1994)
The young, mentally disabled Forrest Gump is unconditionally loved by his mother and gets full support in all areas of his life. This is how the boy who couldn’t walk without prosthetics becomes an overachiever. In high school, he becomes a football star; during the Vietnam War, he saves all his comrades and then becomes a millionaire when he gets into the shrimp business.
Forrest Gump is not one of the best movies of all time for nothing. With an original script, groundbreaking effects, and a fabulous Tom Hanks won the Oscar for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his performance.
12. Meet the Parents (2000)
Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is happy beyond measure. The nurse has found his dream woman. He wants to propose to his girlfriend Pam and is waiting for the perfect moment. Greg hopes an opportunity will reveal itself when he visits his future in-laws. But everything turned out differently than expected. Pam’s father (Robert DeNiro) is a former CIA agent and is also overly paranoid. He, therefore, puts Greg through his paces.
With this top cast, nothing can really go wrong. Robert DeNiro clearly enjoys his role as a former agent with trust issues. And as fun as it is to watch, no one wants to have a father-in-law like that.
13. Meet The Fockers (2004)
Greg and Pam’s wedding is coming up, and Pam will soon be called Pamela Martha Focker. Before the wedding, Pam’s parents want to meet Greg’s family. Here, two fundamentally different worlds collide. The Fockers are a little too casual and permissive for the conservative Byrnes. Jack (Robert DeNiro) is visibly struggling with the lifestyle of Greg’s parents. Greg is also somewhat ashamed of his parents and tries to avoid embarrassment. But exactly by this behavior, he risks the long-earned trust of his father-in-law.
With Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, the filmmakers can go one better and surpass the first part. Gag fireworks of the highest order make this comedy one of the funniest movies on Amazon Prime.
14. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Most of all, Shaun likes to drink alcohol and play video games. His girlfriend is served and breaks up with him. Too late, Shaun realizes he needs to make some changes in his life. At the worst possible time, the zombie apocalypse begins, and the dead come back to “life.” Together with his best friend, Shaun fights his way through the neighborhood, and they find shelter in a pub for the time being. But the horde of undead seems to be unstoppable. How much longer can the two drunkards survive?
The zombie comedy starring the duo of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost has been thrilling viewers for years. Bloody carnage and gallows humor make this film the best zombie movie spoof of all time.
15. Long Shot (2019)
Secretary of State Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron) wants to take the next step in her career. The current U.S. president doesn’t want to run for re-election in order to make a movie career. Charlotte seizes the opportunity to become a presidential candidate for the 2020 election. According to polls, the politician is very popular.
Only their humor could be worked on. She meets Fred (Seth Rogen), the unemployed reporter she babysat while growing up. Charlotte hires him, and together they go on a tour of duty around the globe. They could not be more different, and maybe they get closer to each other just because of that.
This romantic comedy hits the pulse of the times. With two funny leads, a good script, and plenty of gags, this movie definitely belongs on this list.
Elroy Fletcher’s video store is one of the last ones still offering videotapes. The business is going badly, and the building would also have to be renovated again. When Fletcher travels to spy on a large and successful video store, he leaves the store in the hands of his employee Mike. Magnetically charged, Mike’s bumbling buddy Jerry erases all the VHS movies in the video store. Now, of all times, a customer desperately wants to see Ghostbusters. The two friends re-shooted the film with an old video camera. The customers like the product, and Ghostbusters is not the only film they have to remake.
A witty comedy with charming characters who have a great passion for movies. The film is also responsible for the fact that Youtuber has made it their business to re-shoot big movie trailers without a budget. The results are hilarious and definitely worth watching.
17. Hot Rod (2007)
Rod Kimble is a self-proclaimed stuntman but has never successfully pulled off a stunt in his life. The fact that he can still walk is almost a miracle. But he will not be dissuaded from his dream because his father was also a stuntman, who unfortunately had an accident during a stunt. His stepfather Frank is seriously ill and will not have long to live. Rod does not want to let this happen. To raise the money needed for a heart transplant, Rod enjoys setting a new record by jumping over 15 school buses on his motorcycle.
The film starring Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) is so absurd that it’s hard to stop laughing. Hot Rod is high-quality trash with likable characters and a fitting 80s soundtrack.
18. The Intouchables (2011)
Driss has just been released from prison. He lives on unemployment benefits and doesn’t want to change a thing. But to get support, he needs a certificate and a stamp to prove that he has applied. Wealthy aristocrat Phillipe is a person with paraplegia looking for a new caregiver. At the job interview, Driss acts as stupid as can be and shows no compassion towards Phillipe. And that’s exactly why Phillipe wants to hire the unemployed young man. Initial difficulties develop into a wonderful friendship that transcends all boundaries.
The comedy from France is already a cult film. A nice mix of drama and comedy that delights everyone. Meanwhile, there is also an American remake. But, of course, nothing comes close to the original.
19. Love Actually (2003)
England in the run-up to Christmas. This classic with a great star ensemble shows different love stories that are loosely connected. There’s the prime minister (Hugh Grant), who is attracted to his co-worker but afraid of the next step. Or a frustrated writer who finds his supposed happiness far from home. And then there is the best man, Mark, who is secretly in love with the bride.
Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Alan Rickman, and Colin Firth are just a few of the actors in the cult Christmas movie. A clever script and incredibly charming characters make this comedy unforgettable. It is almost a tradition for some fans to watch the film during Advent.

Americans Gil and Inez are on vacation in the French capital. But the cozy togetherness is soon disturbed when the two meet an old acquaintance. Paul, an art fanatic and intellectual, wants to introduce the couple to the culture of Paris. But Gil (Owen Wilson) has little desire for Paul. Then, as Gil wanders through the old city one night, he inadvertently travels back in time and experiences wondrous things.
Cult director Woody Allen achieves something magical with Midnight in Paris. He brings 1920s Paris to life with great attention to detail, creating a journey back in time with plenty of wit and humor.
