How to Straighten Hair Without a Flat Iron (5 Ways)

Five ways, the effectiveness of which is confirmed by beauty bloggers.

Sometimes hair can be so curly that even a curling iron can’t handle it. But if you have already straightened curls with heat, you are likely to cope without high temperatures.

Choose any method out of the suggested ones. If one did not work, experiment with the following.

1. How to straighten hair with a cold hair dryer

This is a basic gentle way to straighten your hair that you can combine with other methods.

What you will need

  • Shampoo and conditioner.
  • Towel.
  • A hair dryer with a cold blower function.
  • A round brush.

What to do

Wash your hair, blot it with a towel.

Next, dry your hair with a hair dryer on cold mode. This is important. Hot air causes the moisture to evaporate more actively, which makes the hair more brittle and frizzy, i.e. the smoothing effect can be lost.

When drying, try to pull the strands with a brush to smooth them out as much as possible. To dry your hair faster, you can use a slit nozzle on the hair dryer. It can make the airflow more powerful and direct.

2. How to straighten the hair with the help of special cosmetics

Straightening products envelop the hair and make it heavier. At the expense of this, you can get rid of light curls.

What you will need

  • Shampoo and conditioner for straightening hair.
  • Towel.
  • Straightening non-washable hair serum or oil: coconut oil, almond oil, argan oil, macadamia oil.
  • Thick comb or comb.
  • Wash your hair with a round brush.
  • Hair dryer if desired.
  • Spray the hair conditioner to hold it in place. It is good if the first place in its composition will be keratin.

What to do

Wash your hair and apply conditioner to damp hair. Sustain for a few minutes, as indicated in the instructions to the agent, and rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Rub a small amount of serum or oil in your palms and apply it to towel-dried hair. Comb your hair with a comb, starting from the tips and gradually working your way up to the roots. This is important to avoid damaging tangled strands.

Blow-dry hair by pulling it through with a brush and smoothing it with your hands. To speed up the process, you can use a cold hair dryer.

When hair is dry, apply conditioner to hold it in place and comb it thoroughly again to pull the strands out.

3. How to Straighten Hair with Gelatin

This method is also called home hair lamination.

What you need

  • Food-grade gelatin.
  • Warm water.
  • A deep dish to mix it in.
  • Balm or hair mask. Any store remedy you use will work.
  • Shower cap or cling film.
  • Towel.
  • Shampoo.

What to do

Prepare a gelatin mask. For this, pour 1 tablespoon of gelatin in 100 milliliters of water. Leave it for 20-30 minutes.

When the gelatin absorbs the liquid, put a container with it in a water bath and stir with a spoon until the granules finally dissolve.

Then add to the warm gelatin a tablespoon of balm or mask. Stir until homogeneous.

Allow the mass to cool and apply it to the hair along its entire length. Keep for 30-40 minutes under a film or a shower cap. You can additionally wrap a towel around your head.

Then wash your hair with shampoo and dry it. It is better – naturally, without a hair dryer. The result will be about as in the picture below.

4. How to straighten your hair with invisible bobby pins

This method is popular among Latina women. In Spanish- and English-speaking Internet it is called dubi or doobie.

What you need

  • Shampoo and balm to straighten hair.
  • Towel.
  • Hairbrush.
  • Stealth hairclips.
  • Hairclip.
  • Hair fixing spray.

What to do

Wash your hair. It is good if you do it with straightening products. Blot your hair with a towel.

If the ponytail is left free, divide it into two parts – the upper and the lower. The upper part should be wrapped back through the nape of your neck and temporarily fastened with a clip.

The bottom one is combed out and stretched along the forehead, fixing it with the hairpins.

Again divide the remaining loose upper strand into two parts and wrap each one around your head in the same way as above: pull one strand along your forehead and pull the other one to the forehead from the other side, through the nape of the neck. When you fix all the hair, you will have something like this:

Allow your hair to dry naturally. You can even sleep with this hairstyle.

Then, remove the hairpins and brush your hair, pulling it out. You can then spray the hair with a leave-in conditioner.

5. How to straighten hair with a curler

Not only can this method help straighten hair but it can also help give volume to the roots.

What we need

  • Shampoo and conditioner.
  • Towel.
  • Comb.
  • Large curlers. The bigger the diameter, the better.
  • Hair oil, such as coconut oil, almond oil, or argan oil.

What to do

Wash your hair and towel dry. Comb wet hair, divide it into large strands, and twist it onto the curlers – as tightly as you can.

Allow the hair to dry naturally. Remove the curlers and comb again, trying to pull out each strand.
