01. I’ll Be There For You – The Rembrandts
The hit from the duo “The Rembrandts” is probably the first that comes to your mind when it comes to the topic of friendship. “I’ll be there for you” was the theme song for the sitcom “Friends,” through which it also gained notoriety. The song was written by the Friends producers and the Rembrandts together, collaborating with a composer and a songwriter. With an original length of less than a minute, the song was subsequently re-recorded as a three-minute pop song.
After a radio station broadcasted the short version, it gained so much popularity that the more extended version was released in 1995.
In the U.S., “I’ll be there for you” topped the Billboard Hot 100 airplay chart for eight weeks. 02. You’ve Got a Friend in Me – Randy Newman
Randy Newmann wrote this song for the Walt Disney movie Toy Story. The instrumental version established itself as a staple of the franchise. This song emphasizes the special relationship between Andy and Sheriff Woody Pride.
It also appears in the film’s opening credits. 1996 “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” was nominated as the best song at the Oscars. Covered in 1999 by Robert Goulet for Toy Story 2 (for the character Wheezy) and in 2012 by the Gipsy Kings – in Spanish – for the third film in the series.

03. You’re My Best Friend – Queen
In 1975 John Deacon, bassist of the British rock band Queen, wrote this pop ballad for Veronica Tetzlaff. Released the same year on the album “A Night at the Opera” and finally as a single in 1976. Furthermore, the song appeared on “Live Killers,” a live album, in 1979 and on the Greatest Hits in 1981.
While recording in the studio, Deacon played electric bass and a Wurlitzer electric piano that gave the song its signature sound. But live Freddie Mercury played on a grand piano because he didn’t like the electric piano. In a 1977 interview, he called it “tiny and horrible” and raised the question of “why play those things when you have a magnificent, beautiful grand piano?”
04. Lean on Me – Bill Withers
Bill Withers wrote and produced “Lean on Me,” a catchy song about friendship and being there for each other. In 1972, the song was written when Withers tried out a few finger exercises on his newly acquired Wurlitzer electric piano. He did not have much experience as a musician at that time.
Withers’ childhood inspired the lyrics in West Virginia. He wrote it after his move to L.A. because here, he missed humanity and the sense of community he had experienced as a child in his homeland. When the U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone published a list of the 500 best songs of all time, “Lean on me” reached 205th place. Place.

The songwriter, and guitarist of the rock band Weezer, Rivers Cuomo, wrote the song “My Best Friend,” released in 2005. “I’ll Stand by You” was recorded by The Pretenders as the second single from their sixth studio album, Last of the Independents, in 1994. Chrissie Hynde and a songwriting team wrote the song. In the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, it reached 16. Reached number 10 in the U.K. charts.
The accompanying music video shows Chrissie Hynde taking care of a sick man. The song is about helping and love in times of personal darkness. So, appropriately, it was also performed by the Country singer Carrie Underwood recorded as a charity single (2007).

09. Bridge over Troubled Water – Simon and Garfunkel
The soft rock ballad was written by Paul Simon and sung mostly solo by Art Garfunkel. On 26.

In 1982, out of the German punk movement, the Düsseldorf rock band Die Toten Hosen was formed. In 2005 they released their album “Back to Happiness. The lyrics on this album deal with values, beliefs, feelings, and transience.

06. Hold on to me – Revolverheld feat. Marta Jandová
In a duet with Marta Jandová (lead singer of Die Happy), the rock-pop band released “Halt dich an mir fest” in November 2010. At that time, Jandová was a jury member in the casting show Popstars, in which the song was also presented.
